Scrap Friends Sketch #22 - Shaka!

Hi everyone,

Is January already over? Need to fix that fast forward button on time! Wish we could slow down just a little bit....

Well on todays page, I'm sharing a photo that's a blast from my past. My oldest who is now 7 is throwing a 'shaka' sign at a luau with her little 2 and a half year old self!

And I'm using the totally awesome sketch #22  from Scrap Friends!

The bold hand painted script seems to be showing up everywhere and I love it! So I thought I'd have a go at the title. I know I need a more practice but I will certainly be trying this out some more.

What do you think about my funny little tiki head? It's from the font Tropicana BV. I enjoy finding cool dingbats and cutting them out on my Cameo. In fact, I probably have a mild font/dingbat addiction......

And really, I totally dig my little UmWowStudio chevron arrows, I think I would put them on all my pages if I could!

I hope you all get a chance to get creative this weekend and maybe even get inspired from the sketch! Aloha!

Well Hello There....! For Pop & Colours 2

Hi everyone,

Hope your weekend treated you well. My is coming to an end but I had a nice quiet one to spend with family...always nice!

I've got another page I made for the Pop & Colours 2 class. This one is totally different in style from my first page...more whimsical. The workshop was taught by Corrie Jones who has this fun, come what may, bright style that I admire. I tried to bring that fun feel here.

This workshop reminded me to bust the sewing machine out more....loved it!

And I mustn't forget my acrylic paints. I've got lots of mediums to color with and I'd really been into watercolors (which I still am) but my poor acrylics have sat in the back row for a while....to the front you go!

Digging through my old stash of embellies was a feel good moment too. There's so much new stuff out there but there's many little treasures I already have so I must remember to look.

And by the way, I think I need several more sheets of this awfully cute SODAlicious paper, Hey You. I love the little doodled peeps :)

Cheers!

Taking Classes and a Tutorial

Hi everyone,

I'm never really good at publicly declaring any major goals at the beginning of a new year. Maybe I'm a little worried that once I say it to the world I'll "have" to make good on them.....ha! So maybe I'll start with some doable, more attainable goals and build up from there.

Well this year I want to make sure I carve out some more time for me to create. I want to make more pages, I want to take more classes, try new techniques, get my hands covered with medium, know what I mean?

To that end I signed up for an online line class called Pop & Colours 2 put on by Shirel Studio.

Here's my first page. The uber talented Georgia Heald put up the first video and I had so much fun trying out her version. When it comes to layering with the photos, I'm a big chicken...bock, bock. Give me mediums to layer, no prob but then comes the time to put the photo down and layer.....and the poultry comes out ;) So for this lesson I just said "aw heck" and kept on adding stuff until I got this. Big smile. I'm very happy.

I used papers from 7 Dots Studio: Messy Head and Love is the Air....

And speaking of learning new things, I have a tutorial up at Scrap Friends on using chalk pastels. Remember this page?

I give a step by step on how to make that background! So head over there and check it out!

UWS January Sketch - "Silly Stars"

Hi everyone,

There's a really fun sketch up at UmWowStudio

I had a grand time creating with all my UWS goodies....lot's of stars here! My girls are goofing off before we head to the ice rink for some winter fun. Their antics put a big smile on my face :)

I loaded the stars up with gesso, molding paste, and paint.

UWS has a great stencil called Light Bulb Mask that I used to doodle these rays.

What does the sketch inspire you to make?

Supplies:
UWS Star Confetti
UWS Layered Starts
UWS Star Confetti Mask

Scrap Friends Color Challenge #21 - "Momentary Truce"

Hi everyone,

There's a brand spankin' new color challenge up at Scrap Friends, No. 21 to be exact. Very cool colors I think so I hope you can play along!

Here's my page. I got my girls to stop fighting for a few moments and actually put their heads together to snap this photo.....sigh. You'd think that being almost 5 years apart, they'd get along a bit more amicably but noooooo. They seem to fight over everything. That's a part of sisterhood I suppose and they do have their moments of truce.

I used many strips of washi tape covered by gesso, stamps, paint and watercolors to make the background.

Now I hope you'll play along with Color Challenge #21 for a chance to be a guest designer or win some goodies!

Supplies:
Pink Paislee Color Wash "Shine"
Distress Paint in Picked Raspberry, Seedless Preserves
Claudine Hellmuth Studio "Nature" stamps
Market Street "Pretty Perfect Grid" stamp
Hampton Art stamp
Luminarte Twinkling H2O in Cedarwood
Dear Lizzy Frame
Studio Calico Wood Veneer
Studio Calico Opaque Gem
KI Memories Puffies flowers
Prima Alphabet stickers
Dear Lizzy Thickers Alpha

Happy 2014!!

Hi everyone!

Well Happy New Year to you all! I hope the first few days of 2014 have treated you well :)

I know the days leading up to the end of last year were busy here and there were so many posts I thought of doing that I just didn't get the chance to. But no matter! That just gives me plenty of stuff to post in the new year :D

Today I'll share two pages.....

First up is my take on the fabulous Sketch Challenge #21 of at Scrap Friends.

Here's the sketch. I obviously rotated my page..... and seriously, isn't this sketch inspirational?

I loved all the random, messy lines. I drew some squiggly lines of my own with glitter glue.

Next up I wanted to show you the page I made for UmWowStudio.

No photos here. This was all inspired by the 2014 Pantone color of the year, Radient Orchid, a "...captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple, and pink undertones." What do you think about the color?

I've had this beautiful Cicada Bug chippie for some time, just waiting for the right page to use it. I colored with many different mauve and purple paints and really enjoyed making it the centerpiece. The Hexagon Background chipboard painted with yellow helped to create some contrast on my monochromatic page so that the cicada would stand out.

I created the background with the UWS Circle Confetti Mask

Well I hope you didn't mind my sorta, kinda, long post ;) Thanks as always for stopping by!
