ScrapFriends Color Challenge #17!

Hello everyone!

ScrapFriends has their Color Challenge #17 up and it certainly is a yummy one!

Aren't those colors gorgeous?

I had fun with this one..........!

And the story...my daughter discovered the meaning of photobomb during our trip to Iceland and she made it her mission to, how shall we say..."practice" the act of photobombing as much as possible for a time. Here she jumped into the pic, enthusiastically blocking her younger sister.

I used the 7Dots paper from the Love Is In the Air collection...wow I love those papers! I just went and added some gesso stenciling, water colors, and stamping and the background pretty much made itself!

And these Studio Calico mistable cameras came in very handy considering the topic of the paper...

The challenge runs through until October 14th so why don't you come and have a play?

Thanks for stopping by, have a great weekend!!

My Exciting News!

Hi everyone!

I've got some very happy news that I can finally share (actual I'm a bit late sharing here but as the saying goes, better late than never!):

... I've joined the design team over at ScrapFriends!

When I was asked to join, I did a little happy dance :) I've been following their blog for some time and I love their gorgeous sketch and beautiful color scheme challenges! And if you haven't visited their store, you should. It's full of anything you could want to make your pages and projects!

And speaking of sketches, the September Sketch Challenge #17 is up right now! You have until September 30th so go to it!

My take.................

I threw banners across my page, a little splitter, splatter here and there of distress stains, stamps and paints.

OK, every time I see that photo above, I. Crack. Up. That squished up nose? That's little one "blowing" out her candle...except her mouth is closed and she's forcing air out her nose! She had never blown out a birthday candle before and she thought that's what the big girls were doing! Hee hee!, so funny, forever precious.

That was a little long of a post so I'll say goodbye and invite you once again to play along with this month's sketch over that ScrapFriends!

Magical Bubbles

Hi everyone!

Oh wow, this is the last official week of summer for us as my big girl returns to school next week! It went fast......

In the page that I'm sharing with you this week, I wanted to capture some of that summer magic. I love to watch my little ones play with bubbles...it's something so simple yet so endlessly entertaining. Actually, I think it's a little magical for them...colorful yet clear, everywhere at once and then gone, and if you are lucky you can "catch" one!

The UmWowStudio chippies were just perfect for this page. I covered the circles in colored tissue paper and metallic acrylic paint.

The butterfly got covered in Snow Tex medium and watercolors.

I hope this page gave you a little happy summer feel :)

And as always, thanks so much for stopping by!

Some Shine and Pizzazz!

Hi everyone!

My turn up at UmWowStudio! You can see more details of the reveal here

The page I made was totally inspired by the fun photo of my eldest...I so love this pic! She was at dress rehearsal for an upcoming performance and I thought I'd better a photo "now or never" in costume. So glad I did!

I used the UWS chipboard to add some pizzazz to my page by loading them up with glitter..they really sparkle under the light!

For the background I painted with an acrylic metallic blue and stamped with paint too. The red is watercolor paint on watercolor paper (imagine that) (insert self sarcasm) and stamped with Stazon ink.

I used my Silhouette all over this too....the star page, the anchor, and the helm. Got the nautical shapes free from here. It says they will only work in Photoshop but I just converted them to a PNG file on my PSE so that I could open it up in Silhouette.

Hope mid week is treating everyone well and thanks so much for stopping by! Oh and you're probably going to be sick of me repeating this but you can follow me on Bloglovin' by clicking on this imagine in the sidebar:

UmWowStudio and Gauche Alchemy

Hi everyone!

Today is the last day of the UmWowStudio/Gauche Alchemy swap so if you haven't done so already, go check out the all the different, inspirational projects by the DT members here and here!

My page was up on UmWowStudio yesterday and I wanted to share it with you all:

I don't know about you but I find with little ones around, it's tough it a get photo that has everyone in it AND everyone looking. Oh and it's recent too, yay! So this one is precious to me. And I just loved using the UmWowStudio Potty People to represent us!

Most of the title bits come from the Gauche Alchemy blue mixed media color kit...lot's of cool bits and pieces to make your page look unique!

One more close up...used some heart punchinella as a stencil with some molding paste.

All right people, that's all for now! It's Friday (!) hope you all have a great weekend!

Where's Miae?

Hi everyone!

Wow, it looks like I took an unintended hiatus from the scrapping/ blogging world. I haven't posted anything since early June! Yikes!

I was thinking about what it was that kept me away for so long it really wasn't anything more than the busy-ness of life. First there was the visit by the in laws, then there was my daughter's end of school year activities, quickly followed by a family vacation overseas....phew! One thing I have discovered about myself is that my creative mind is like a muscle. If I don't use it, I lose it.... Drove myself a little crazy wanting to scrap but drawing blanks whenever I'd squeeze in a little time to try :(

I did finally manage to make a page. I struggled, I'm ambivalent the way it turned out but that's OK because I created SOMETHING! Thanks CSI for this one!

I don't think I've ever worked this color scheme before, it's not an easy one for me. I turned to my trusty washi tape, paints and stencils to help me sort it out. Once the paints ran in the directions it did, the rest of the page came together a little easier.

Molding paste mixed with Adirondack Color Wash gave me a blue textured medium which I spread over my TCW circle stencil. I painted over some of the circles with Daler Rowney Liquid Acrylic in Sky Blue

Used the Silhouette to cut out the "kapow" shape (no really, that's what it's called) out of vellum to imply a burst and with green paper as leaves for this flower cluster.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Oh and don't forget, you can follow me on Bloglovin' if you please! Just click on this icon on my sidebar:

See you soon!

Textured Layers for Let's Get Trendy Now! 3

Hi everyone!

I'm up at the Let's Get Trendy Now! 3 workshop! Come and see all the different projects and be inspired to create! The focus for today is Textured Layers and I love me some texture and some layers!

I thought I'd do a quick run down of how I usually approach my layouts. I typically start by layering different mediums to create the background. There are so many out there: gesso, textured pastes, paints, mists and crayons just to name a few.

And just think of all the different ways to apply those mediums: brushes, stamps, stencils, punchinella, heck.... fingers! Again, just to name a few.

After I'm satisfied with the background, I layer with my papers and embellishments.

For my final step, I'll doodle here and there to emphasize certain features or to create interest. I also flick on extra bits of paint or mists at this point. And that's it, my formula for a textured, layered page!

Now for the supplies....

AC Cardstock (not shown), Strathmore watercolor paper (not shown), Stazon ink, Golden gesso, Lumiere's paints, Dr Martin Bombay india ink, Faber Castell Gelatos, Big Brush Pen, and Pitt pen, Zig Writer and Photo Signature pen, Heidi Swapp Color Shine, TA Glimmer Mist, Shimmerz Colorings, TA Glimmer Glam, Studio g glitter, Angora water color paints, washi tape,  7 Gypsies stamp, Studio g stamps, UmWowStudio Chipboard (arrow), Heidi Swapp chipboard, Colorbok hearts, Glitz alphas, Heidi Swapp alphas, Prima alphas
***also not shown are the bits of punchinella used to apply gesso***
