The Color Room Palette #58

So I've been a member of The Color Room for just a few months now and I love it! It really does challenge me to not only push outside the box of my usual palette schemes but to make my own backgrounds and embellishments. I often don't have pre-made embellies in the color scheme that's listed so I have to be creative with my paints, mists, and inks to make things up...so fun!! And that is right in line with my mixed media interest :) Here's this weeks palette followed by my LO.

I made the background by using a doily as a mask along the edges and by applying molding paste in the center and painting over it. Really wanted to sew the inside border on this page but I swear I remain incapable of using a sewing machine! (must try again) so I just doodled it.  On the outer edge is a letter I wrote to my daughter about becoming a sister and how I already know what a wonderful sister she will be. The title is in Korean, pronounced 'on-ni' which translates to older or big sister. That is how our new baby will be taught to call her sister:)

Another She Art Canvas!

I've been interested in mixed media for sometime and I definitely see it's trend growing in the scrapbooking world. Well to learn more mixed media techniques and to venture a little outside of the scrap world I signed up for a fabulous online class put on by Christy Tomlinson of Scarlet Lime called the She Art Workshop. It's been so much fun! I wanted to share my second canvas I've finished since starting the class. This one is for my little girl to put in her room. She loves the color purple...

Here are some close ups:

Mother's Day

This is a door knob hanger I made for my mom for Mother's Day.  I made it out of grungeboard and I really like how the background turned out! First I cut out the shape and inked it with 3 different distress inks. Then I painted a thin coat of Jaquard Lumiere paint in Pearl over everything for some shimmer. Next I stamped the background with Tattered Angels and Tim Holtz stamps using Stazon and Brilliance inks. Glittered the edge of the shape for a little extra shine. I think I've just become a fan of grungeboard!

Gotta Start Somewhere

So I've been meaning to start this blog for some time but there have been various reasons (excuses) as to why I hadn't. Well intimdated or not, technically savvy or not, it's just time to do it! So on NSD I've decided to take the plunge and post! I've been scrapbook since 2006 and though there have been a few blips and pauses, it's grown into a downright obsession for me:) I see this as a place to share my creations and I'd love for anyone interested to visit and feel welcome.

I finished this LO today inspired by The Color Room palette #56. These are pics of my daughter when she was just shy of a year old. We'd gone on a trip to Kauai and clearly her taste buds had a palette for the sand there! I painted the chipboard to match the color palette and used a bunch of gesso everywhere. The bits of pink and yellow masking tape I'd made following an excellent tutorial by Lydell Quin over at The Color Room. Go check it out!
