Viva Las VegaStamps and The Crafters Workshop!

Hello!

This week we're stamping and stenciling with Viva Las VegaStamps and The Crafter's Workshop! Everyday there's new projects and ideas on both blogs so if you're looking for some inspiration, head on over to VLVS and TCW!

I made a layout about a bucket list item...I haven't yet been to Greece and it's also where our children's great grandfather comes from so it's a goal of mine to travel there someday.

What better background to use for a travel meet than a map? I used TCW438 City Grid which I thought was perfect! And I used some fun VLVS stamps to emphasize the subject of Greece: Two Columns, Steampunk Flying Greek and Drunken Baby/Cherub.

Want to know how I made this page? Then please head over to The Crafter's Workshop!

There's new inspiration and ideas each day so I hope you'll make a little trip over to VLVS and TCW!

Have a wonderful day!

UmWowStudio - Pretty in Pink

Hello!

It still surprises me how different my two children are from each other....born that way, I swear. Absolutely unlike my eldest, my youngest is an all out princess. She loves her princess dresses and will clip clop around in her plastic Disney princess heels until it hurts. And of course her favorite color is....pink! So, I have this sweet photo of the princess in a pink ballerina tutu so I thought it would make a perfect pink page. I did have to put my touch and grunge it up a bit of course :) and I had plenty of UmWowStudio goodies to help it along!

I started with 7 Dots Studio paper from the Love is in the Air collection...it had the perfect pink page. Then I altered the background with lots of Tattered Angel mists, watercolor paint, and Neocolor 2 pastel sticks, and some stamping. Next, I used the UWS Checkerboard Mask with heavy gesso.

Now to alter the chipboard...the UWS Layered Butterflies are covered with several layers of metallic acrylic paint. You heat in between the wet layers to get that textured look. I also added Tattered Angel Glimmer Glaze and finished with wash of Distress Ink.

They were so fun to make...I am hooked! I also got my hands on some Fiber Paste (thanks to Yvonne Yam for "introducing" me to them!) and applied it all over the UWS Hexagon Background.

Cool huh? My finishing touches are the UWS Wild Flower flair and May Arts dark brown twine.

So even though it's not 100% pink, maybe someday my little one will appreciate her mother's version of Pretty in Pink :)

Have a great day!

Project Catch Up

Hello everyone,

I haven't been updating my blog as much as I should so I thought I'd do a little catch up sharing here :)

First up is a layout for UmWowStudio. I had made this for the September sketch challenge.

Here's a close up of the Gears Background covered in microbeads.....

Next is a mini book, again for UmWowStudio. I am not a mini book maker by nature but I wanted to challenge myself! Minis really are versatile. You can focus on one subject, one look or make each page entirely different and squeeze in all sorts of photos. I made a funny book about our visit to the Princess Juliana Airport on St. Martin...it's known for it's short runway and close proximity to an actual beach...planes get mighty close to people! Here's a few pages:

Lastly, here are some cards I made for The Crafter's Workshop. I've got a tutorial there showing how I made these cards so go check it out!

Have a great day!

UWS - Hello Dear One

Hello all,

I've got an UmWowStudio layout to share today! I recently snapped these photos of my youngest having an afternoon and they're so precious to me because her napping days are almost over. Not too many sleeping photo ops left :) So I composed a warm, neutral page to try and convey a sweet, precious feel.

Here are some close ups:

I used gold everywhere I could. In the case of the bulb and stars I mixed loose gold glitter and a gloss gel medium to make a paste over the masks. And of course that flair fit so perfectly in the bulb :)

Rub 'n Buff came in handy for the ends of these hearts to given them a light, metallic cover.

The raw chipboard also felt right in making the rose vine lattice. The little Prima roses and gilded leaves also came in handy. I did paint some of the roses with Distress Paint for the pops of purple color here and there. I also gave them a little Rub 'n Buff treatment too get the gold on the edges.

Hope you enjoyed the page...have a wonderful weekend!

Lily Fairy and More Watercolored Backgrounds

Hello all!

Today I'm up at The Crafter's Workshop with a layout showing how I "fake" a watercolor background :) Have a visit, if you please, to see how I made this page:

For my photo and title, I was also inspired by this month's Scrap Around the World challenge which involved fairies and wings!

Here's some close ups...I wanted to create delicate wings to use on the photo so I used my Cameo and vellum paper to cut out the wings. I outlined them with my extra fine tipped Zig pen then covered them with Versamark watercolor ink and a dusting of Pearl Ex powder.

I stamped the title with these mini, wood blocked stamps from Studio G.

Thanks a bunch for visitng and again, head over here to learn how I made the background! Have a great Monday!

Supplies:
TCW499 Koi Pond
Angora watercolors
Twinkling H20 watercolors

Peace Out and Waiting For Mojo

Hi everyone,

Been kinda quiet here. We've returned from our holidays and school is in full session and so is work but I just can't seem to kick the creativity into high gear. Ever feel that way? What do you do when your mojo seems low?

To reenergize and get inspired, I'm taking an online course called Pop & Colours #3 put on by Shirel Studio. She's got a super star line up of mixed media people and I'm really enjoying the videos! Here's my first page. I made this after watching Riikka Kovasin's video.

I love taking classes for many reasons. Yes, there's new techniques to learn but sometimes it's learning a new way to approach a tried and true technique or sometimes it's being reminded to retry something you've forgotten about.

Another thing I enjoy about classes is how relaxing it can be. I simply followed along with Riikka's process, enjoying creating without having to "reinvent the wheel".

So I'm still waiting for my friend mojo to swing by for a visit but until then, I plan on learning, continuing to dirty my hands with paint and gesso, and enjoying my classes.

TCW - Melbourne Urban Street Art - A Tutorial

Hi everyone!

While we were exploring Melbourne, we came across several alley ways that were filled with really cool graffiti art. It's pretty amazing what people can create with spray bottles! I took a bunch of photos and here's a layout I made with one of them.

I used some of The Crafter's Workshop stencils from the new 2014 Summer release along with Chalk Core cardstock by Core'dination to make my page. Here's a little step by step on now I created part of the background.

I wrote out a quote using a white Sharpie marker and overlapping with a Faber Castell Pastel Pencil.

To distress the page I used the Sand It Gadget by Core'dinations.

Next I used the TCW478 Beaded Curtain stencil with white mist and embossing powder.

On a new sheet of Chalk Core cardstock, I applied many different metallic acrylic paints with make up sponges to TCW470 Geometric Art Layers,  blending as I went.

Here's what that sheet looked like when I was done.

I cut the page into strips and saved some for future projects.

Lastly, I took the strips and layered them on the distressed cardstock then splattered more metallic acrylic paint everywhere, did some messy doodling, added some UmWowStudio Chevron Confetti chipboard and added the photo of course.

Here's some close ups:

Cheers!
