UmWowStudio - Pretty in Pink

Hello!

It still surprises me how different my two children are from each other....born that way, I swear. Absolutely unlike my eldest, my youngest is an all out princess. She loves her princess dresses and will clip clop around in her plastic Disney princess heels until it hurts. And of course her favorite color is....pink! So, I have this sweet photo of the princess in a pink ballerina tutu so I thought it would make a perfect pink page. I did have to put my touch and grunge it up a bit of course :) and I had plenty of UmWowStudio goodies to help it along!

I started with 7 Dots Studio paper from the Love is in the Air collection...it had the perfect pink page. Then I altered the background with lots of Tattered Angel mists, watercolor paint, and Neocolor 2 pastel sticks, and some stamping. Next, I used the UWS Checkerboard Mask with heavy gesso.

Now to alter the chipboard...the UWS Layered Butterflies are covered with several layers of metallic acrylic paint. You heat in between the wet layers to get that textured look. I also added Tattered Angel Glimmer Glaze and finished with wash of Distress Ink.

They were so fun to make...I am hooked! I also got my hands on some Fiber Paste (thanks to Yvonne Yam for "introducing" me to them!) and applied it all over the UWS Hexagon Background.

Cool huh? My finishing touches are the UWS Wild Flower flair and May Arts dark brown twine.

So even though it's not 100% pink, maybe someday my little one will appreciate her mother's version of Pretty in Pink :)

Have a great day!

Project Catch Up

Hello everyone,

I haven't been updating my blog as much as I should so I thought I'd do a little catch up sharing here :)

First up is a layout for UmWowStudio. I had made this for the September sketch challenge.

Here's a close up of the Gears Background covered in microbeads.....

Next is a mini book, again for UmWowStudio. I am not a mini book maker by nature but I wanted to challenge myself! Minis really are versatile. You can focus on one subject, one look or make each page entirely different and squeeze in all sorts of photos. I made a funny book about our visit to the Princess Juliana Airport on St. Martin...it's known for it's short runway and close proximity to an actual beach...planes get mighty close to people! Here's a few pages:

Lastly, here are some cards I made for The Crafter's Workshop. I've got a tutorial there showing how I made these cards so go check it out!

Have a great day!

UWS - Hello Dear One

Hello all,

I've got an UmWowStudio layout to share today! I recently snapped these photos of my youngest having an afternoon and they're so precious to me because her napping days are almost over. Not too many sleeping photo ops left :) So I composed a warm, neutral page to try and convey a sweet, precious feel.

Here are some close ups:

I used gold everywhere I could. In the case of the bulb and stars I mixed loose gold glitter and a gloss gel medium to make a paste over the masks. And of course that flair fit so perfectly in the bulb :)

Rub 'n Buff came in handy for the ends of these hearts to given them a light, metallic cover.

The raw chipboard also felt right in making the rose vine lattice. The little Prima roses and gilded leaves also came in handy. I did paint some of the roses with Distress Paint for the pops of purple color here and there. I also gave them a little Rub 'n Buff treatment too get the gold on the edges.

Hope you enjoyed the page...have a wonderful weekend!

UWS - Temple Bayon

Hi everyone,

Last year my husband and I had the opportunity to go to Cambodia and see the many amazing temple ruins there. They are amazing and each one different from the others. Of course we took approximately a million and one photos but besides gracing my memory card, I think I've scrapped one :-/

I'm so happy to be sharing A-nother photo with you all (hey, that's one better than none). One of our favorite temples was Bayon. It has all these massive stone faces high up on its towers...so distinct, amazing. Here's a photo of one of the faces.

I used UmWowStudio products to create this look and I'm so pleased with how well they worked here. The background is stamping on 7Dots Studio paper, followed by stencil work with the UWS Brick Mask and an Oil Bar.

I also used UWS Layered Squares chipboard to make the floating bricks. To get that stone appearance I "patted down" molding paste then painted them with metallic watercolors.

The damask florals from the UWS Floral Collection allude to the flora surrounding these temples. I painted them with Distress Crackle paint.

Hope you enjoyed that, have a wonderful day!

UmWowStudio and Susan K. Weckesser Blog Hop!

Hi everyone,

If you haven't heard yet UmWowStudio and Susan K. Weckesser are having a summer blog hop this week!

It's day two and I'm up with my page :)

It was so easy to work with the Susan K. Weckesser papers and stamps. The bright beautiful colors were seriously perfect for so many of my kid photos!  I used the papers from the Live in Color collection. And they went so well with the UmWowStudio chipboard shapes and flair!

I got my title for the page from UWS This Day Hashtag Banners. It held just the right sentiment for that photo, don't you think? I left this chippie raw and just covered the back with yellow paper.

The Chevron Confetti make such good pointers to emphasize bits and pieces on your paper. I covered mine up with gesso and dimensional paints and had the larger green chevron point towards the word "happy" (which I made with the cameo and my own script brushwork) and had the smaller yellow chevron point to the photo.

I cut out circles from SKW's paper and of course I had to add some fun flair! UWS Wood Textures flair set have these cool backgrounds that you can use by itself for splashes of yellow, teal, or grey...or you can alter them. I altered the flair with a stamp from the ABC. 123. Washi set from SKW & Unity.

Oh and I realize it's tough to see but I used the UWS Checker Board Mask in the background with Super Heavy Gloss Gel medium for more texture!

Hope that added a little happy to your day! Check back in with UmWowStudio everyday this week to see all the awesome projects the design teams have made and get the chance to win one of TWO prizes!

UmWowStudio and Pan Pastels - The Pen is Mightier

Hi everyone,

This month at UmWowStudio we're using Pan Pastels on our projects! Oh the colors are so beautiful, and for a powder, they're almost rich and creamy!

I've got my project up there now with some explanations on how I used Pan Pastels on the page so I'd love it if you'd head over for a quick visit...thank you!

Of course my title is from the line "The pen is mightier than the sword" from the play Richelieu. I think that is a fine quote and though I've used it on an art journal page, I've been wanting to use it on a page for some time. And large, lovely feathers like these by UWS just make me think of quills. Then there's the sweet photo of my youngest "writing" while her sister was doing homework. Put it all together and there you have my page :)

I used paper from the 7Dots Studio Nature Walk collection and the word stickers too. Head over to the UmWowStudio blog to find out how I altered the feathers.

I made this little cluster with flair, and chippies from UWS. The felt (which was originally white) is from my stash and that lovely resin flower is from the sweet Helene Bogren

Just showing a close up of the "ink" and circles from the Circle Confetti Mask.

I hope you have a wonderful day!

Taking Care of Business

Hi everyone,

Wow, I feel like I've been so busy with nothing to show for it! The school year is coming to an end and it feels as if my oldest baby has SO MANY school functions and activities going on....(taking a deep breath)...but it's exciting to her and I'm excited for her!

And I've got some news of my own to share :) I'm excited, uh actually, over the moon(!) to be a part of The Crafter's Workshop 2014 Design Team!!

Here is the link to the announcement and here is the page to find out a little more about each of us. Come by and say "hello"!

And I'm not done yet. ;)

It's my turn up at UmWowStudio

That's my youngest baby all geared up and excited for her first day of preschool! I grin every time I see those photos...she was so excited that day because she was going to school just like her big sister.

I wanted a messy, child art-like feel to this page so I just random, messy-painted and left big droplets of color. I wrote the alphabet with white crayon in the back before painting to get a little resist action.

And don't you just love the little UWS alpha chippies? I thought using them for the alphabet would be fun!

The arrow worked so well with that stamped word and I always feel the need to put little hearts everywhere.

I added the circles with molding paste over the watercolors for that texture then doodled around them (what would I do without circles?!).

And that's my 'taking care of business' ;) Hope you all have a great day!

Supplies:
Glitz Design Stamps "Wild & Free"

UmWowStudio - ROTFL!

Hi everyone!

Here's a CT page I made for UWS using their awesome chipboard, flair, and stencil...

The original reveal is here and I write more about the design elements of the page.

I greatly enjoyed making this page since I'm happiest when I get to play around with different mediums. I used a high gloss, heavy gel medium over gesso and cardstock then painted over everything with watercolors and Faber Castell gelatos. The gloss created a nice resist effect. To emphasize some of the circles I used Derwent Inktense pencils.

I thought the title ROTFL (Roll On The Floor Laughing) was very appropriate since that's exactly what my daughter was doing in this photo :)

Hope everyone has a great week!

Hi everyone,

I'm very excited to continue to be a CT member with UmWowStudio....here's the announcement!

And here's my page for February already up on their blog:

I'm really enjoying scripting over my pages since taking a class by Kal Barteski. There will certainly be more pages with script in the future. I've also got some close up photos here but more details on how I used the UWS products on their blog so please go check it out!

I hope you're all having a wonderful weekend!
